Private Investment Fueling Downtown Watertown

As more comprehensive plans for a new library and hotel in Watertown's downtown inch forward, several small businesses and property owners are injecting new life into the city's considerable collection of historic buildings.
Local businessman Dan Rahfaldt is also among those working to prime the city's downtown for future development. He operates his industrial sales agency from an office in one of his Main Street properties and recently bought two more buildings in the downtown district, one of them a massive warehouse on North Water Street that has been neglected for the last 50 years. Once home to an Otto Biefeld Company machine shop, then later a Sealy Mattress factory, the warehouse has sat mostly empty for the last 20 years, primarily being used for cold storage.
